Estamos aqui hoje com mais noticias da Disgraça, e das atividades recentes do seu grupo de cuidados 🖤

Há pouco tempo, no início do nosso 9º aniversário, abrimos o festival com uma conversa motivada por uma pergunta curta mas complexa: Como é que nós e as pessoas à nossa volta nos sentimos no espaço da Disgraça? Esta conversa trouxe sentimentos e levantou questões sobre as quais continuámos a pensar e a falar coletivamente nas semanas a seguir. Entre preocupações de acessibilidade, segurança e formas de responder melhor em casos de assédio ou abuso, também partilhámos ideias para a transformação do próprio espaço, em que a arquitetura e disposição possam comunicar melhor as nossas posições sobre estes assuntos. Estas ideias e preocupações levaram-nos a encontrarmo-nos num domingo e desenhar uma nova faixa para a Cantina, que possa ser um passo pequeno na transformação constante da Disgraça a um espaço mais seguro, inclusivo e acessível para todes. Pensando e trabalhando coletivamente na faixa funcionou bem, e acabámos com algo que nos agradou, uma faixa que era simultaneamente bonita e assertiva na sua posição anti-machista. Podem vê-la na foto abaixo, como também nas paredes da Cantina 💜

Mas, por muito que queiramos espantar todos os possíveis abusadores (e todos aqueles que reproduzem violência estrutural) com mensagens agressivas, compreendemos que isso pode não ser sempre suficiente. Teremos sempre de estar preparades para responder quando este tipo de situações ocorrerem, e as nossas respostas terão sempre de se adaptar, transformar e melhorar, de acordo com as nossas próprias experiências e as críticas que recebermos. O processo de transformar o espaço que partilhamos e onde nos organizamos num espaço mais seguro, confortável e acessível para todes é constante e terá de incluir muitos passos que já estamos a planear: a criação de um ou mais cantinhos da calma (calming corners) na casa (para acomodar pessoas neurodivergentes e neurotípicas em momentos de angústia ou sobrecarga), redes mais activas e distribuídas de informação e cuidados no espaço (através de workshops internos, autoeducação, cartazes, zines e materiais de saúde), e até a criação de um elevador para os vários andares do espaço!

A nossa campanha de crowdfunding, e o processo da compra coletiva do espaço continua! Os esforços têm sido muitos, e o apoio recebido tem sido enternecedor, mas ainda estamos longe dos valores necessários. Vem apoiar este projeto que celebra a vida de pessoas trans imigrantes neste mês em que lembramos e lutamos para continuar a celebração que é a nossa existência. 😎😎😝😝

Hello dears!

We’re reaching out to you today with another update from Disgraça, and the recent activities of its care group 🖤

A little while ago, in the beginning of our 9th anniversary, we opened the festival with a conversation prompted by a short but complex concern: How do we and the people around us feel in Disgraça’s space? This conversation brought questions and feelings that we kept thinking and talking about collectively in the weeks to come. Among concerns of accessibility, safety, and ways to better respond in cases of harassment or abuse, we also shared ideas for the transformation of the space itself, into a space whose architecture and layout could better communicate our positions on these topics. These ideas and concerns brought us to meet up one Sunday and design a new banner for the Cantina, that would be a small step in the ever-continuing transformation of Disgraça into a safer, more inclusive and more accessible space for all. Thinking and working collectively on the banner worked well, and we ended up with something we were happy with, that was both pretty and assertive in its anti-machist stance. You can see it in the picture included below, as well as on the walls of the Cantina 💜

But, as much as we would like to hex away all possible abusers (and all those who reproduce structural violence) with strong messages, we understand that this might not always be enough. We will always have to be prepared to respond when these types of situations occur, and our responses will always have to adapt, transform and improve, according to our own experiences and the criticism we receive. The process of turning the space we share & organize in, into a space that feels safer, comfortable and accessible for everyone is constant, and will have to include many steps that we’re already planning on: the creation of one or more calming corners in the house (accommodating neurodivergent and neurotypical people in moments of distress or overwhelm), more active and distributed networks of information and care in the space (through internal workshops, self-education, signs, zines & health materials), and even the creation of an elevator to the space’s many floors!

Our crowdfunding campaign, and the general process of collectively purchasing the space is still going on! The fundraising efforts have been plenty, and the support we’ve received has been quite touching, but we are still far away from the necessary value. We still need a lot of support to spread the word and to contribute to the crowdfunding campaign. If you are able to help, enter here.

Come support this project that celebrates the lives of trans immigrant people, in this month in which we remember and fight, to continue the celebration that is our existence. 😎😎😝😝

Olá olá :>

Já não vos enviávamos uma mensagenzita há algum tempo, e partir de agora queremos começar a fazê-lo de forma regular, quem sabe, semanalmente? Ou isso não vai ser possível porque vamos estar a arranjar tubos de canalização ou os monitores da sala de concertos que se lixaram? A ver.

Bem, voltando ao assunto. Faz um mesito que celebramos não só o nosso 9º aniversário como também a assinatura do CPCV para a compra da Disgraça!

Foram 4 dias cheios de conversas, gargalhadas, apresentações de livros, desabafos, concertos, gritos, workshops, abraços, para além de tudo o resto que não me vem à cabeça. Gostava de dar-vos um resumo bastante breve dalguns momentos que me marcaram a mim sobre o festival (se não quiserem ler este texto aborrecido podem ver um resumozito dos gigs que tivemos aqui.)

Quinta, 3 de Outubro, primeiro dia

Tivemos uma conversa super importante sobre como tornar a Disgraça um espaço mais seguro, e provavelmente numa das próximas newsletter falaremos mais em detalhe sobre essa conversa e também do grupo de trabalho dos cuidados disgraçados e que questões tem abordado. Depois vieram as Fado Bicha tocar e foi uma das noites (se não a noite) mais cheia que vi na Disgraça. Para além do stress da manutenção e limpeza que isso envolveu, acho que a maioria da malta ficou mega contente com o concerto ter sido especial e envolvesse tanta gente. Foi bonito ouvir das Fado Bicha que, para elas, este concerto era como se estivessem a tocar em casa. Nós sentimo-nos em casa convosco cá!

Indo para sexta, 4 de Outubro, o segundo dia,

Começou-se com uma conversa mega bangerzona organizada pelo Coletivo da Libertação da Palestina, que ultimamente se têm tornado nossos BFFs (duma forma organizacional, entenda-se). Baseada numa sessão entre o anarquista nascido em Israel Uri Gordon e o sociólogo Palestiniano Mohammad Bammyeh, discutem entre eles um imaginário diferente para a Palestina, que não envolve nem 1 nem 2 estados: The No State Solution [A solução sem estado]. Quem esteve envolvide na conversa gostou tanto (eu incluído) que vamos tornar isto numa série de conversas (mais info numa próxima newsletter, oxalá!). Ah! E começamos também a gravar as conversas e a públicá-las no nosso site, e em breve estarão disponíveis em formato podcast também. Esta foi a primeira e, se não foste à conversa, podes ouvi-la na íntegra (em Inglês) aqui.

Terceiro dia, 5 de Outubro, sábado (tá quase, juro).

Sábado foi o dia dos workshops!! Tivemos o nosso vizinho preferido (ou seja, o que gosta mais de nós) a dar um workshop de Tai Chi aqui no Jardim do Caracol mesmo ao lado, com um banner da Disgraça só praquela pinta. Ao mesmo tempo, o nosso compa e amigo Samba, da cozinha dos Anjos, esteve a ensinar como se faz uma bolsinha (pochete? pouch? nunca sei como se chama isto. Com uma fita à volta do corpo e onde a malta guarda o tabaco, ganzas, e afins). Nestes últimos mesitos, o Samba tem bulido bastante a vender as suas peças em feiras e por aí fora, e recentemente criou uma página de Insta, merece todo o nosso apoio por isso se ainda não o seguem, aqui está o link! Neste dia também não houve homem-cis no palco em nenhuns dos concertos que tivemos 🙂

Domingo, último dia

Tivemos a assembleia galaxy (assembleia aberta para todes) mais cheia desde que eu me lembro!! Isso foi mesmo fixe e acho que reflecte como se têm envolvido muitas mais pessoas no espaço desde que começamos este processo da compra. Contas, feitas, angariámos 4,500€ nesse festival! Muito obrigade a todes que vieram, participaram e nos ajudaram a chegar um pouco mais próximo de conseguirmos assegurar a Disgraça a longo prazo.

Hoje, temos à volta de 56,000€ – ou seja, 20% dos 275,000€ necessários. Já percorremos um longo caminho mas ainda falta muito para caminhar e precisamos mesmo da vossa ajuda! It’s been a while since we last sent a message, and from now on we want to be doing so more regularly, who knows, maybe once a week? Or that’s not gonna happen because we’ll be fixing some pipe leaks or the concert room monitors that got screwed? Who knows.

Anyways, back to the main topic. It’s been a month since we celebrated our 9th year anniversary as well as the signature of the Cee-Pee-Cee-Vee (don’t know what that is in English)!)

It was 4 days full of conversations, laughs, book presentations, venting out, concerts, shouting, workshops, hugs, and that’s the only things to come instantly to my mind. I’d like to give you a brief summary of some of the moments that really stood out for me (if you don’t feel like reading the rest of this boring text, you can see a summary of the gigs we had during the festival here).

Thursday, 3 October, first day

We had a very important conversation about how to make Disgraça a safer space for all those who come here, and we’ll probably go more in detail about this and the things the care working group has been doing in a future newsletter (so stay tuned!). Then, Fado Bicha came and performed and honestly it was one of the nights in which Disgraça was most packed. Beyond all the stress and maintenance that that entails, I think most people were super happy that it was such a special concert – it was beautiful to hear from Fado Bicha that, for them, this concert was like they were playing at home. We also felt at home with you playing here!

Going to Friday, 4 October, second day

There was a mega banger conversation organized by Coletivo Libertação da Palestina (Palestine Liberation Collective), which lately has kind of been becoming our BFFs (in an organizational way, that is). Based on a session between anarchist Uri Gordon, born in Israel, and Palestinian sociologist Mohammad Bammyeh, they talk amongst themselves about a different revolutionary horizon for Palestine, one that envolves neither 1 nor 2 states: The No State Solution. Most people who were involved (including myself) liked the conversation so much that we’re turning this into a series of conversations (we’ll also be talking about this in a future newsletter, inshallah). Ah, and we’ also started recording and publishing conversations on our websites, and soon they’ll be in podcast format as well. This was the first conversation we’ve released, and if you weren’t there, you can listen to it here.

Third day, 5 October, Saturday (I’m almost done I swear).

Saturday was the workshop day!! Our favourite neighbour (basically the one who likes us the most), did a Tai Chi workshop here in Jardim do Caracol right next to Disgraça. At the same time, our comrade and friend Samba, from Cozinha dos Anjos, was teaching how to do these pouches (I don’t know what they’re called, neither in Portuguese nor English, but those little pouches with a strap that goes around your body, where peeps usually keep tabbaco, weed and other shit). In these last months, Samba has been sewing day in day out in order to produce fabulous bags to sell in street fairs. He has also created an Instagram page recently, and deserves our support! So in case you don’t follow him yet, here’s his page. On this day there were no cis-men on stage in any of the concerts we had!

Sunday, 6 October, fourth and last day

We had the fullest open galaxy assembly since I remember!! It was really cool and reflects the fact that there’s been quite a lot more people getting envolved with the space since we started this whole mad journey of trying to buy Disgraça. All said and done, we raised 4,500€ in these 4 days!! Thank you so much to everyone who came, who participated, and who helped us get a little closer to securing Disgraça.

Today, we’ve got around 56,000€ – that is, 20% of the 275,000€ that are needed to buy the space. We’ve walked a bit but there’s still a long road ahead of us and we really need your help! Boas malta!

Estamos aqui para mais uma ronda de partilha de notícias disgraçadas com vocês 🖤

Há uns dias atrás tivemos um encontro para discutir novas ideias e estratégias para angariar fundos para assegurar o espaço da Disgraça. Entre muitas, uma delas era lançar uma nova campanha no Liberapay. Como funciona isso? O Liberapay é uma plataforma open source sem fins lucrativos de donativos recorrentes, onde vocês tornam-se patronxs do espaço. Ou seja, a partir dela podes apoiar a Disgraça com um valor regular, semanalmente, adaptado às tuas possibilidades. A ideia que fermenta por debaixo disso tudo é que se tivermos o apoio regular de umas quantas centenas, ou quem sabe, milhares de pessoas (há-que sonhar né?), e a partir do que cada umx pode pagar, aproximamo-nos exponencialmente dos valores que precisamos para comprar a espelunca mais jeitosa da Penha de França.  Fiquem atentes, mais informação sobre isso sairá em breve!

Outro dos planos magicados, foi ter merch da Disgraça disponível em vários outros espaços de afinidade. Nos últimos meses, as telas da sala de serigrafia tem estado em alarido frequente e vários designs foram oferecidos ao espaço para ser usados nessa campanha dantesca a que nos propusemos. Às 20.30h há um workshop e performance de dabke, pelxs Handala Dabke. E o serão termina em grande com um concerto de bbb hairdryer (queercore noise).

Hey there!

We’re reaching out today for another round of sharing, with exciting news from Disgraça 🖤

Some days ago, we had a gathering to discuss new ideas and strategies to raise funds to secure the space of Disgraça. Among many, one of them was launching a new campaign on Liberapay. How does that work? Liberapay is an open-source, non-profit platform of recurring donations, where you can become patreons of the space. That means you’ll be able to support Disgraça with a weekly value, adapted to your capacities. The idea fermenting under all of this is that, if we had the regular support of a few hundreds, or, who knows, thousands of people (one can dream, right?), and including what each would be able to pay, we would get exponentially closer to the value that we need to buy the most lovely cave of Penha de França.

Another one of the conjured plans was having Disgraça merch available in various other affiliated spaces. In the last months, the canvases of the screen-printing room have been in frequent frenzy, and various designs were offered to the space to be used in this daunting campaign to which we’ve committed ourselves. If you are part of any space or have contacts with any project that might be interested in helping us with this, send us an email to disgraca@riseup.net, or a message on our networks. If you have any design that would click right with the politics and practices of the space, and you’d like to donate it for merch, get in contact with us!

The efforts and energy have been plenty, and the support we’ve received has been quite touching, but although everything is moving along, it’s only going at a slow pace and we are still away from the necessary value. • Saturday, 16 November: The Collective for the Liberation of Palestine (Colectivo pela Libertação da Palestina), will organise a benefit event to support collectives that resist the forces of occupation in Masafer Yatta, in Palestine. At 6pm there will be a conversation with Sami Huraini, who is coming from that region to enter in conversation around resistance and international solidarity. It will be followed by a Palestine-inspired dinner. At 8:30pm there will be a workshop and dabke performance from the group Handala Dabke. The evening will end with a concert by bbb hairdryer (queercore noise).
• Monday, 18 November: DIY Monday, starting at 5pm.

Voltamos a invadir a vossa caixa de email para partilhar umas quantas notícias entusiasmantes. Para começar, no dia 19 de Setembro assinamos o contracto de promessa compra e venda, onde oficializamos a intenção de comprar o espaço e definimos os acordos de como vai decorrer o processo
daqui em diante. Com este contrato já foram pagos 27,500 euros, 10% do valor total, que já podendo ser divulgado, estamos na correria para angariar o restante até perfazer 275.000 euros, e assim garantir que a Disgraça exista e resista, pelo menos, até ao colapso do Império :). Pois é, como podem ver, há-que agitar as águas, e ao mesmo tempo que se corrói as fundações das máquinas opressoras que nos constringem em ritmo extenuante, há que conseguir muito dinheiro para tal feito.

E como vão as lides financeiras? Já começamos a receber empréstimos solidários diretos, sem juros e com contrato, e precisamos de muitos mais. Precisamos do vosso apoio para espalhar a palavra a quem possa usar-nos como caixa-forte. Fogo aos bancos!
Estes empréstimos diretos serão essenciais para conseguirmos alcançar o valor total, e serão devolvidos à medida que seja necessário, sendo o espaço notificado com um periodo de 6 meses de antecedência.

Os nossos planos são continuar a fazer eventos benefit, uma caravana-tour pela europa, fundos não estatais e claro, a campanha de crowfunding. Quanto mais angariarmos desta forma, mais rapidamente podemos livrar-nos destas obrigações financeiras e podemos focar-nos em dedicar no nosso tempo a apoiar e participar em lutas de resistência, aprender e organizar em conjunto. Se não podes apoiar com donativos ou empréstimos, há outras maneiras:

• Estamos a pedir a colectivos & outres, que têm partilhado o espaço connosco na última década, para ajudar-nos na divulgação, através das suas redes de contacto e grupos de afinidade. Queremos fazer isso juntes!
• Vamos continuar a organizar vários eventos benefit, dentro e fora do espaço. Desafiamos outros projectos em solidariedade com a Disgraça, que façam o mesmo nas suas geografias.
• Queremos fazer uma caravana-tour pela europa, passando por vários projectos, para divulgar a campanha e angariar fundos. Se tiveres contactos ou quiseres ajudar-nos nesse processo, envia-nos email.

Hey comrades and other beings

Here we are, invading your email box, once again, to share some exciting recent news. To start, on the 19th of September we signed the promissory contract of sale, where we made oficial our intent of buying the space and defined all the agreements of how this process will go from now on, in more legal terms. Along this first contract we paid 27,500 euros, 10% of the whole amount, which finally being able to share the real value of the building, we’ve been on the hustle and bustle to reach the amount of 275.000 euros,in total, and like this garantee that Disgraça exists and resists until the downfall of the Empire, at least.

And as you can see, we have to shake things up, and at the same time as we corrode the foundations of the opressive machines that constrain us in this exhausting rhythm, we have to raise shitloads of money.

So how the financial chores have been going so far? We already started getting some interest-free solidarity loans, and we need a bunch more. We need your support to spread this information to folks that can use us as their personal vault. Fire to the banks! These loans will be essential to give the initial down payment to the owner of the space and will be repaid upon request with a 6-month notice period.

Our plans are continue having fundraising events, a caravan tour all over Europe, non-state-affiliated grants and, of course, the crowdfunding campaign. The more we can raise here, the quicker we can be rid of financial obligations and dedicate our time to supporting resistance struggles, learning from one another and organising together. If you can’t support by donation or loans, there are of course also
other things you can do:

• We’re asking collectives (and folks who are both part of and not part of collectives!) who have been sharing space with us for the last decade to help us publicise this through your networks and affinity groups. We want to do this together!
• We’re going to organise several benefit events inside and outside the space next year. We challenge other groups in solidarity with Disgraça to do the same in their geographies.

Alô amigues, inimigues e desamigues!

Faz tempo que as vossas caixas correio não se deleitam com as novas dos nossos loucos planos. Neste calor estival, muites de nós estamos fora a viver todo o tipo de aventuras, espalhando a palavra Disgraçada por toda parte. Fizeram-se benefits e bancas de merch em sítios como Bélgica, Alemanha, Holanda e Reino (des)Unido. Tivemos também montes de reuniões para não perder o alento, apesar de desafios com a Wi-Fi e fusos horários (‘como assim a reunião é só daqui a uma hora???’).

Mas em Lisboa, entretanto, também não se dorme. A cada semana temos tido eventos graças a muites lindes amigues que, nos tempos entre os seus planos de Verão, trouxeram a vontade de organizar e fazer acontecer. Em Julho tivemos incríveis concertos de angariação de fundos para a compra do nosso espaço: The End of Ernie, Crywank, As Docinhas,… Agosto será relativamente ameno, mas ainda temos duas ou três coisas em vista antes de fecharmos portas para umas curtas férias de Verão.

Já para depois do Verão, estamos a marinar um regresso em grande. Iremos festejar o nosso 9º aniversário e assinalar uma importante etapa no processo de compra da Disgraça, da qual teremos mais notícias em breve. Entretanto fica a dica para guardarem na agenda o fim de semana de 3-6 outobro e para ficarem atentes a mais novidades nos próximos tempos.

Até lá, estamos sempre grates em ouvir as vossas ideias para angariações de fundos, quanto mais tresloucadas melhor. Todes juntes chegamos lá. <3

Hi friends, foes and frenemies!

We haven’t graced your inbox with an update on our mad plans in a while. In this summer heat many of us are away living all kinds of adventures and spreading the Disgraça gospel far and wide. We’ve had benefits and merch stands in various places like Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. We’ve also had a bunch of awkward online meetings trying to keep things moving along despite Wi-Fi and time zone challenges (what do you mean the meeting is only in an hour???)

In the meantime, things on the Lisbon side haven’t been sleeping either. We’ve continued having events every week thanks to many lovely friends who were willing to organize things in between their own summer plans. In July we’ve had a few incredible gigs to bring in funds to buy our space: the end of Ernie, Crywank, as Docinhas,.. August has been a relatively quiet month but we still had a few nice events before we decided to close our doors for a little summer break.

After summer we’re cooking up something biiiiig. We’ll celebrate our 9th birthday and an important milestone in buying Disgraça that we will soon tell you more about. Make sure to keep the weekend of 3-6 October free if you’re in Lisbon and keep an eye out for more news soon.

Estamos a enviar esta pequena newsletter para vos dar uma atualização sobre o processo de compra da Disgraça e o que se está a passar em geral. As últimas semanas foram cheias de benefits, com eventos na Casa da Horta no Porto, Salle Guelle em Marselha, Mula no Barreiro e Translib em Leipzig. Ao mesmo tempo, os Sharp Knives têm andado em digressão pela Europa (chegando ao Reino Unido e à Holanda de 19 de julho a 4 de agosto), também angariando donativos. Claro que também não temos estado parades, e acabámos de ter um fim de semana muito ocupado, repleto de concertos (Pôt-Pot, Hexis, Cor Parecida), comida, filmes e muito mais. E participámos no anti-tour por Lisboa que ligou 6 colectivos diferentes da nossa zona, onde mostrámos o nosso espaço a muita gente nova.
Todo esse esforço valeu a pena, e angariámos cerca de 2k só com esses eventos.
Muito obrigade a todes que ajudaram, participaram e doaram.

Sending this little newsletter to give you peeps an update on the process of buying Disgraça and what’s going on in general. The last weeks were full of Benefits for us, with events in Casa da Horta in Porto, Salle Guelle in Marseilles, Mula in Barreiro and Translib Leipzig. All the while Sharp Knives has been touring through europe (coming to the UK and the Netherlands 19th of July till the 4th of August), also raising donations. Off course we haven’t been idle either, and we’ve just had a very busy weekend, packed to the brim with concerts (by Pôt-Pot, Hexis, Cor Parecida), food, movies and more. And we took part in the anti-tour which connected 6 different collectives in our area, where we showed our place to a lot of new people.
All this effort paid off, and we made around 2 grand just with those events.

Olá!

Com o processo de compra da Disgraça em andamento – dos quais já arrecadámos 7,380€ em crowdfunding, 4000€ no Smash the Estate Fest no mẽs passado, bem como alguns empréstimos de companheires – permitimo-nos alguma nostalgia e decidimos relembrar os primeiros passos do centro social.

Tudo começou no 11 de Setembro de 2015. No topo de umas das colinas de Lisboa, abriram-se as portas da Disgraça. Das paredes brancas e insípidas, das salas vazias e de eco enfezado, e da multitude das vontades que convergiram para aquele lugar, desabrochou este projeto irrequieto. Paredes cairam, paredes subiram, paredes rabiscaram-se. E como se de uma nascente de insubordinação se tratasse, vinda das profundezas do subsolo da cidade, materializámos, sala por sala, o potencial comunitário de cada uma. Movides por sonhos, vontades e necessidades comuns, construiu-se uma cantina e sala de convivio, uma biblioteca, uma sala de concertos D.I.Y., uma oficina onde impera o caos, uma sala de ensaios e uma de serigrafia, um ginásio (o lugar mais arrumado da casa), a loja livre Desumana, e, da memória de uma montra vazia, fez-se uma acolhedora livraria anarquista – a Tortuga.

Porém, o trabalho de arrequedação de fundos, construção de afinidades e exercício do imaginário coletivo começou alguns meses antes, em momentos e espaços espalhados pela zona metropolitana da cidade, onde váries companheires se reuniram, muites pela primeira vez, motivades pela seguinte chamada:

Estamos aborrecidos.
Fartos da cíclica e entediante procura por um espaço de expressão livre. Livre das expectativas de gestores de espaços “coolturais” presos a métodos enraizados no medo da dissonância e distorção humana. Livre das pressões económicas dos profissionais da cultura. Livre daqueles para os quais a criatividade gratuita ou a baixo preço não parece uma boa premissa e que querem a todo o custo taxá-la, regularizá-la, limitá-la e obter lucro a partir dela. Vai sempre existir uma licença em falta, uma lei inventada, uma queixa falsa ou qualquer outra coisa com vista a impedir e complicar algo tão simples como 3 acordes.

Não queremos ser castrados nem esterilizados.

Queremos motivar e ser motivados.

Queremos abrir um espaço que seja um laboratório de expressão individual, onde qualquer um possa realizar os seus projectos e ideias de maneira espontânea e incondicionada. Um espaço que estimule o espírito DIY e de autoprodução.

Queremos espaço para a música percorrer um caminho mais curto entre os executantes e o público.

Queremos providenciar ferramentas para a emancipação individual e colectiva através de espaço para o corpo, a mente e habilidades, assim como para a canalização da frustração e da raiva.

Não nos vamos deixar subjugar por quem claramente não quer que certas ideias sejam difundidas, que certos eventos sejam realizados, ou que certas verdades sejam berradas.

Por isso criámos um colectivo para auto-gestionar um espaço arrendado no centro de Lixoboa. Uma sala de espetáculos, um estúdio, uma infoshop, um espaço para actividades físicas, serigrafia, workshops vários e tudo o que a imaginação e as oportunidades nos permitirem. Um lugar para construir, destruir e reconstruir.

Para que esta ideia se torne realidade, planeámos uma série de eventos benefit que contribuirão para a primeira renda e despesas iniciais inerentes à abertura do espaço.

Hello!

With the process of buying Disgraça underway – of which we’ve already raised €7,380 in crowdfunding, €4,000 at the Smash the Estate Fest last month, as well as some loans from companions – we allowed ourselves some nostalgia and decided to look back on the social center’s first steps.

It all started on 11 September 2015. Atop one of Lisbon’s hills, the doors of Disgraça opened. From the vapid white walls, from the empty, echoing rooms, from the multitude of wills that converged in that place, this restless project blossomed. Walls fell, walls rose, walls were scribbled on. And as if it were a spring of insubordination from the depths of the city’s subsoil, we materialised, room by room, each one’s community potential. Moved by common dreams, desires and needs, we built a canteen and community space, a library, a DIY concert hall, a workshop where chaos reigns, a rehearsal room and a screen printing room, a gym (the tidiest place in the building), the free shop Desumana, and, from the memory of an empty shop front, a cosy anarchist bookshop – Tortuga.

However, the work of raising funds, building affinities and exercising the collective imagination began a few months earlier, in moments and spaces scattered around the metropolitan area of the city, where several companions got together, many for the first time, motivated by the following call:

We are bored.
We are fed up with the cyclical and tedious search for a space for free expression. A space free from the expectations of the “cooltural” managers who remain mired in methods that are rooted in fear of dissonance and human distortion. A space free from the economic pressures of the cultural professionals. Free from those for whom free or inexpensive creativity does not seem a valid idea and instead want to tax it, modify it, limit it and profit from it, at all costs. There will always be a missing license, a made up law, a false complaint, or anything else they think of, in order to prevent and complicate something as simple as 3 chords.

We do not want to be castrated or sterilized.
We want to motivate and be motivated.

We want an open space, a laboratory for individual expression, where anyone can realise their projects and ideas – spontaneously and unconditionally. A space that stimulates the DIY spirit and self-production.

We want a space where music can find its shortest path between the performers and the audience.

We want to provide tools for individual and collective emancipation through a space for body, mind, and skills; as well as to channel frustration and anger.

We will not be overwhelmed or undermined by those who clearly do not want certain ideas to spread, certain events to be held, or certain truths to be screamed.

So we’ve created a collective to self-manage a rented space in the center of Lisbon. A concert hall, a recording studio, an infoshop, a space for physical activity, screen printing, various workshops, or anything that the imagination and opportunities allow. A place to build, destroy and rebuild.

For this idea to become reality, we have planned a series of benefit events that will contribute to the initial expenses related to the opening of such a space.
